5 Signs You're in Denial
If I’m a pro at anything, it’s being in denial. We’ve all been there. Whether you’re in denial about your relationship being garbage fire (yet still stay in it another 4-6 months), having romantic feelings for someone you wish you didn’t (like your personal trainer who somehow managed to get your lazy ass to the gym three times a week and not because you love running till you feel like you’re going to die), or maybe you just refuse to accept the fact you’ve been summoned for jury duty and may have to sit in a cold courtroom for an entire week (Can I just tell them Netflix’s ‘Making A Murderer’ scarred me for life and get out of it?).
Basically what I’m trying to say is that we are great at lying to ourselves and sometimes that just makes things more complicated. But lucky for you, I’ve taken all of those life experiences I’ve had and turned them into a list of signs to tell whether or not you’re in denial. So hopefully we can all just start being more truthful with ourselves.
5 Signs You’re in Denial
1.) All your friends keep telling you that you’re in denial. This isn’t a coincidence. Your friends know you pretty well. If they all think you’re lying to yourself, odds are, you probably are. So listen to them. Even if it feels like they’re wrong because you “know yourself really well and would obviously be able to tell if you were in denial.” Uhh, no you wouldn’t and yes you are.
2.) You keep whatever you’re denying to yourself because you feel that if you say it out loud or hear anyone else’s opinions on it, then you’ll really have to face it. Which scares you. And trust me, it doesn’t scare you because "you’re so right it’s scary", it scares you because you are lying to yourself. All day, err day. And you know it.
3.) You have admitted it to yourself at one point and then changed your mind. Are you kidding me? If you have even half accepted it, only to change your mind right after, you’re in denial. Sorry not sorry. But hey! The truth will set you free...right?
4.) You get defensive about it. If you feel the need to get defensive about anything, there’s most likely insecurity behind it. Is that insecurity just you being in denial? Absolutely. You’re welcome.
5.) If what you’re not admitting to yourself shows in other ways, like certain songs you’re listening to or emotional Tumblr quotes you’re re-blogging, then there you have it. We do things subconsciously all the time. So pay attention to it. You feel? Ugh, feelings. Gross #amiright
So those are my top 5 signs you’re in denial. Hope they helped. I don’t know about you, but I’ll probably still deny the fact I’m in denial even after making this list. But hey, I made the list so…baby steps right? At least I’m self-aware! Kind of. Okay, definitely not as self-aware as ‘Look what You Made Me Do’ Taylor Swift but hey, I’m trying. Anyway, hope you guys have a great weekend. Let me know in the comments below what you want me to write about next time!
