I started Virtual Dating… Here’s What Happened

So, obviously we’re all quarantined(ish) at the moment and most of us are avoiding any kind of real human contact, right? But we’re people, so naturally, we’re still craving some type of connection, even if that means watching mukbangs while we have dinner so we don’t have to eat alone...right? ..No? Just me?

Anyways, this all leads me to the topic of this blog, *drum roll please* ONLINE DATING!

Okay, sure. We’ve been online dating this whole time. But let’s be real. Quarantine has made us take it more seriously, no? Like I’m actually having conversations with the guys on these apps now..mainly so that my social life doesn’t strictly revolve around what night my parents want to play a board game with me. Which, shockingly, doesn’t happen as frequently as it did month 1 or 2 of quarantine.

Anyways, due to all of these reasons, I hopped back on Hinge, the app that’s meant to be deleted yet I’ve never had a real reason to delete it because I’m picky and single so here we are. While on hinge, I’ve been scouting for some potential guys.

Now...I don’t know if this desire to start online dating again came from a revelation that I’m ready to buckle down and meet someone actually good for me or if I’m just trying to find someone to have some fun banter with and perhaps make this pandemic thing a little more bearable. Regardless, I’m in it baby.

So after scrolling through many, many gentlemen on the app, I found two that I thought were kinda cool and seemed interested in having a FaceTime date. However, I don’t give just anyone my number, so I suggested we do the next best thing, a ZOOM date.

Hinge Guy #1 seemed promising, as we had some fun light hearted conversation and he made me laugh. As for Hinge Guy #2, it was more of a gamble because we’d barely talked at all prior.

When planning my zoom dates, I did what any girl not wanting to waste her time would do (which would otherwise be spent drinking alone with my cat while watching Selling Sunset on Netflix), I double booked the dates on the same night.

Yep! Zoom date with Hinge Guy #1 was at 6:30pm and zoom date with Hinge Guy #2 was at 8pm. I figured the hour and a half in-between gave enough time to see if there was any type of connection, while also having an out, in case the person and I didn’t click.

Now let’s get to the dates, shall we?

DATE 1:

We were both on time, which I was happy about. Punctuality is the way to my heart. Also, sushi. At first, we both chatted about how neither one of us knew what to expect from a zoom date, as this was both of our first time.

And honestly, we had a great conversation! He was a really cool guy, there was good chemistry and banter, and overall I would definitely chat with him again.

Pros: I actually had fun talking to someone that wasn’t my mom or dad.

Cons: Because this wasn’t in person, I didn’t feel the same type of closeness as I would’ve if we were face to face. Zoom dates can be very… sterile.

DATE 2:

Not going to lie, I think I was too distracted from date #1 to really give Hinge Guy #2 a fair chance. It took me about 20 minutes to get in the moment, but eventually I did and we had good conversation!

He was a cool guy! Nothing bad to say. I think both of us felt the same towards the end, that it just wasn’t a match! Which, you guys, honestly, felt great. I hate when two people leave the date feeling totally different about it. That’s when feelings get hurt.

UPDATE: Literally 15 minutes after typing all of that, he messaged me. We are not on the same page. I take it back.

Pros: It was, again, great talking to someone outside of my immediate family

Cons: Was distracted from date #1 and kept comparing

Well, that’s all I have for you folks! I’ll keep you posted if more zoom dates happen and in the meantime, check out my other blogs! Back when we used to be able to see people in real life. Ahhhh… what a time.

See you Monday!
